Bridge named joint administrators for Mainland Construction Group

16 Oct 08

Impact

Bridge Business Recovery LLP has been appointed as joint administrators for one of Northamptonshire's longest established privately owned construction companies – the Mainland Construction Group.

Partners James Bradney and Andrew Duncan have been brought in to find a buyer for the Plant Hire division of the business, an integral part of the company, which was founded over 20 years ago in Kettering. Until recently, the Mainland Construction Group employed over 150 people across its three divisions – construction, civil engineering and plant hire.

Although the construction and civil engineering divisions have been closed and the contracts sold, its plant hire operations remains a viable concern. Considerable interest has already been expressed although Andrew Duncan from Bridge Business Recovery expects further expressions of interest over the coming weeks.

Says Duncan: "Like many companies operating in the sector, Mainland has struggled financially in the wake of the general economic slowdown, resulting in the closure of several areas of its business.

"Although we have only just been appointed administrators, considerable interest has already been shown in its plant hire division, which continues to trade strongly, and we expect further interest as we go about identifying a suitable buyer for this division of the company."

This latest appointment caps a remarkable first year for Bridge Business Recovery, which was created following the management buy-out of the Business Recovery department of Chartered Accountants Berg Kaprow Lewis. Since then the team at Bridge has been providing its unique brand of hands-on, pragmatic advice to a variety of clients, including MK Airlines, an assignment that has seen a significant investment in the company as part of a wholesale restructuring of the business.
